This Season: Keep Your Receiving Skills Sharp
Keep your receiving skills sharp by practicing for 20 minutes a day with Phillies Baseball Academy.
This week’s edition of Spring Training Tips will provide a drill to help you focus on hand-eye coordination and receiving. This drill will help you develop trust in your hand to move to the right spot when receiving.
This drill can be practiced in a safe and open space in your home or outside. Go grab a friend and a bucket of balls and you will be ready to play!
STEP ONE:
-Throwing partner: Collect a group of balls and take a knee.
STEP TWO:
-Receiving partner: Go about 5-10 feet away in an athletic position.
-The closer you are the more difficult this drill will be.
STEP THREE:
-The throwing partner will alternate throwing the ball with each hand, not stopping until all the balls are thrown.
-Aim to throw the baseballs in different spots around the catching partner.
-High, low, left, right
STEP FOUR:
-The receiving partner will work to catch each baseball with one hand only
-Speed up the throwing to make the drill more challenging
